The Five Heartbeats (1991)

Starring: Robert Townsend, Michael Wright, Leon, Harry Linnex, Diahann Carroll

Directed by Robert Townsend

Written by Robert Townsend, Keenan Ivory Wayans

"Can't nobody saaang like Eddie Kane Jr!" - Eddie

Since the beginning of time, boy bands were compiled of the bad boy, the sweetheart, the talent, the player, and the one no one really cared about.

Duck (Robert Townsend) is the songwriter for the musical group The Five Heartbeats in the 60s. Despite jealousy, drug addiction, discovering the seedy side of the music industry, the young men find success. But there is one member in particular, Eddie (Michael Wright) who has a terrible time dealing with both success and failure. And Michael Wright SELLS it!

The acting, and lip syncing, are flawless. Whenever this movie is on, I stop everything to watch it. At the very least, to the point when Eddie Kane tries to get back into the group.

You know the part.

The Dells are the actual voices of The Five Heartbeats
